CSS Export (Development Handoff)
Your Figma variable hierarchy, exported as matching CSS — so developers don’t retype your design system by hand.
The problem
Translating Figma variables and styles into usable CSS is normally a manual, error-prone step — someone has to read every variable and retype it as a CSS custom property, hoping nothing gets missed or renamed inconsistently along the way.
What it does
CSS Export automatically generates CSS custom properties that mirror your Figma variable and style structure exactly. A path like Layout/Settings/Mobile Min becomes --layout-settings-mobile-min — same structure, same hierarchy, just converted to CSS naming conventions.
Use this after the variable structure is stable. CSS Export is a handoff step, not a replacement for defining or maintaining the source tokens in Figma.
Two export modes
| Mode | Exports |
|---|---|
| Color Tokens | Your full color system |
| Design Tokens | Every defined design token, for complete integration |
Why it matters
- Consistency — naming and structure carry over from Figma to code without translation errors.
- Efficiency — no manual CSS variable creation.
- Scalable — works the same whether your system has a dozen tokens or hundreds.
Result
The last mile of the design-token pipeline — from a base color you picked, through Reactive Variables, Token Commander, and now to CSS a developer can drop straight into a codebase.
